Tesla News
Tesla stock soared to a new high Monday after the electric vehicle maker notched another delivery record during the fourth quarter.
Tesla (TSLA) fell just short of its stated goal of 500,000 deliveries in 2020, but shares 3.4% to 729.77 on the stock market today, hitting a record high intraday. The company said on Saturday it delivered 189,750 EVs in the quarter, vs. 174,000 expected by analysts, for a total of 499,550 in 2020. Final delivery numbers could vary up to 0.5% or more by the time Tesla reports quarterly results later this month, the company said.
Tesla reports its deliveries in model groups. For the fourth quarter, Model Y and Model 3 cars totaled 161.650, while Model S and Model X totaled 18,920.
Tesla stock analysts expect EV demand to pick up globally in 2021. In China, EV sales are seen growing by 40% to 1.8 million units in 2021 and reaching 6 million units in 2025.
Expect EV sales to ramp up from about 3% of total auto sales today to 10% by 2025. He says demand will “disproportionately benefit the clear EV category leader Tesla over the next few years especially in the key China region, which we think could represent 40% of its EV deliveries by 2022 given the current brisk pace of sales.”
The Tesla stock analyst added that Chinese EV makers BYD Co. (BYDDF), Nio, Xpeng and Li Auto also are “firing on all cylinders.”
