Champagne sales reached an all-time high last yr handily beating a prior mark set in Y 2019, as the relaxation of VirusCasedemic-related curbs fueled a surge in exports, notably to the United States, producers said Monday.
While French producers already said last yr they expected a sales record, they now confirmed Y 2021 sales hit $5.7-B, 14% above the pre-virus high. This comes after the champagne industry saw a sharp drop in sales in Y 2020 at the height of the chaos when bars and restaurants were closed and major celebrations were put on hold.
Sales to the United States, champagne’s Top export market, spiked 31% compared with Y 2019, reaching a record 34-M bottles
